Good rated annuity carriers

B++ and B+ are the two ratings A.M. Best classifies as Good. They are the lowest ratings still inside the secure range, indicating a good ability to meet ongoing insurance obligations. Contracts from this tier deserve closer attention to issuer trajectory and state guaranty association limits.

What the Good category actually says

Good is the third category on the A.M. Best scale, covering B++ and B+. These are the lowest ratings A.M. Best still treats as secure — below them the scale moves into vulnerable territory.

Smaller and newer issuers frequently appear here, and they often lead the multi-year guaranteed annuity rate tables. A higher declared rate from a B++ carrier is not automatically a bad decision; it is a decision that should be made knowingly rather than by accident.

Two checks matter more in this tier than any other: the direction the rating has travelled since the contract was issued, and how contract value compares with the state guaranty association limit in the owner's state.
